Dogs!
"Generations" - Copyright by Lyrae Perry 2002
This painting is a loving portrait of two of my favorite Mini Bull Terriers, Miles and his son Zach, and three puppies from different successive generations, depicting the various colors. Miles was a wonderful show dog, and was Champion in his class at the famed Westminster Dog Show. His son Zach was also a champion show dog and had perfectly shaped eyes for the breed. He was a "tank" - solid muscle and bone, and as loving a dog as you could ask for.
The original is watercolor/gouache on paper - 12" x 16" - Original for sale.

Dream of Africa-Overflow of the Okavango River Delta - Copyright by Lyrae Perry 2015
It looks like Neverland to me! But it's a wild place. Can you spot the jumping lioness and the butterflies? It seems like an abstract painting, but it's a bird's-eye view of the greatest river in Africa. The original is 24"W x 12"H. This is oil on canvas and is a composite of several different photos.

- This is one of several cenotes in central Texas. The grotto was formed millions of years ago when an underground river collapsed. This is privately owned and protected. Hamilton Pool is similar in size and is open to the public as part of the Texas park system.
- The underside of the waterfall is rough and has a salt crust. Ammonites and other fossils are embeded in the rock. Overhead are horn shaped helectites---different than straight hanging stalactites in several ways. Helectites are often hollow and made of mud with undulating curves which form over hundreds of years. Their formation process is a mystery to science at this time. The pool of water is 150 feet deep and formed of limestone, giving it that rich turqoise blue color. Ferns grow on the walls and turtles swim in the pool. It's a place where you can feel peacful and happy, and just enjoy the sound of the waterfall.

I wanted to paint turbulent, deep water during a storm. I had just finished the painting when my mother came in and said I'd painted myself in the storm. Once you see the face in the rain, you can't ever look at the painting and not see the face!

Chondrules form as molten droplets in space, and join with other matter to form asteroids. They are believed to be the oldest matter in the universe, dating back to the Big Bang. This painting shows a slice of a meteorite with three very different glass-like chondrules. This artwork is a mixed media painting with both iridescent and metallic paint used to render the details of the chondrules. Prints have been hand painted to match the original.
